Boy math is a trending internet phenomenon used to joke about male logic. The trend emerged from “girl math” which is used to humourly justify women’s extravagant spending habits.

Boy math is more abstract, referring to and making fun of male stereotypes. For example, boy math is when he’s 5’10 but says he’s 6 feet tall. Other examples include poking fun at men who are afraid of gold diggers but themselves don’t possess much wealth.

While girl math was a humour and lighthearted trend, boy math tended to take a more critical tone. The trend emerged on TikTok and X (formerly known as Twitter) to criticize men who were using girl math to make fun of women and reinforce negative gendered stereotypes.
